Am 21.10.2016 wurde es international im Logo Hamburg, denn 9 Musiker aus insgesamt 6 Nationen aufgeteilt in 2 Bands traten an, um feinsten Goth-Rock zu präsentieren: DARKHAUS mit ihrem Support Hell Boulevard. Und beide Bands hatten für die zahlreich erschienen Gäste und Fans neue Songs aus ihren neuen Alben im Gepäck. (Ein Review zu Debütalbum Inferno der Supportband findet ihr hier).
Pünktlich um 20 Uhr betraten Matteo „vDiva“ Fabbiani, Von Marengo, Dee Dammers und A.Ve a.k.a. Hell Boulevard die niedrige Bühne des Hamburger Clubs und eröffneten mit dem Stück Love is Death, zu welchem kurz vor Tourstart noch das dazugehörige Musikvideo veröffentlicht worden ist. Dies ist bereits das 4. in der Videografie der erst vor zwei Jahren gegründeten Band.
Brachial ging es sofort weiter mit treibendem, glasklarem Goth’n’Roll, welcher nach und nach in immer mehr Adern der Anwesenden floss und der in der Schweiz beheimateten Combo bereits schon nach Living Dead Lover großen Applaus einbrachte. Die anschließende kurze Vorstellung der Bandmitglieder durch den Sänger nutzte Von Marengo zur Pflege und Abstimmung dessen Cyan-Gitarre … wohl sehr intensiv, denn Frontmann Matteo wurden in dieser kurzen Pause sein ganzes Können in Sachen verbaler Publikumsunterhaltung abverlangt. Und diese doch souverän und humorvoll gelöste Einlage sollte für die Newcomer nicht die Letzte an diesen Abend sein. 😉 Die Gelegenheit sich ausgiebig beim Headliner DARKHAUS für diese Tour zu bedanken kam dann auch gleich 2 Songs später.
Mit dem mehr als erleichterten Ausruf „Thanks God!“ und einem neckischen „I hate you, Dude!“ an den Mann an der Gitarre war Mattǝo Fabbiani wieder in seinem Element, als er Lesson in Pain dann endlich ankündigen durfte. Von da aus ging es weiter zu Freak Parade. Zwar ohne den Album-Duettpartner Chris Harms von Lord of the Lost, aber das ist bei der rauchigen, tiefen Stimme, die der Sänger von Hell Boulevard selbst mitbringt, eigentlich auch nicht notwendig. Die Band im Gesamten wusste gut zu unterhalten, was man am reichlichen Applaus nach dem letzten Song Hangover From Hell vernehmen konnte, welcher von nahezu jedem Anwesenden gespendet wurde.
Für den Headliner DARKHAUS war es an diesem Tag ein Heimspiel, sind Gitarrist Rupert Keplinger und Drummer Paul Keller doch in der schönen Hansestadt zu Hause. Aber auch Bassist Gary Meskil, Gitarrist Marshall Stephens und Sänger Ken Hanlon schienen sich pudelwohl zu fühlen, als sie nunmehr das 3. Mal in dieser Location spielten – diesmal als Hauptact!
Und auch sie eröffneten mit einem Song, zu dem jüngst ein Musikvideo veröffentlicht wurde: All Of Nothing. Da somit Sound und Lyrics den Fans bekannt waren, fiel es nicht so sehr ins Gewicht, dass die richtige Tonabstimmung ein wenig Startschwierigkeiten verursachte, welche ab dem 2. Song dann aber sehr gut ausbalanciert war. After The Heartache wurde euphorisch vom Publikum willkommen geheißen – eines der beliebtesten Stücke vom aktuellen Album, wenn man den Downloadcharts der verschiedenen Online-Plattformen und natürlich dem feiernden Publikum glauben darf.
Einen kurzen Moment der Überwältigung gönnte sich dann auch Frontmann Ken Hanlon, als er bei der Ankündigung des Titels Ghost anmerkte, dass seit der Veröffentlichung ihrer ersten Single ja schon bereits 3 Jahre ins Land gegangen sind. Und wenn man die Biografie der Band so überfliegt, kann man es tatsächlich schwer glauben, dass seitdem 5 Touren und zahlreiche Festivalauftritte absolviert wurden. Zumal einige Bandmitglieder noch in anderen sehr umtriebigen Bands (Pro-Pain, Eisbrecher) aktiv sind.
Der Mix aus Songs des Debütalbums My Only Shelter des Nachfolgenden When Sparks Ignite war sehr gut abgestimmt. Durch die professsionelle Arbeit des Tontechnikers vor Ort und die Art der Songarrangements von DARKHAUS war es auch für Nicht-Kenner der Stücke leicht, den Zugang zu finden und mitzufeiern. So konnte die ausgelassene Stimmung im Konzertsaal über das 15 Songs umfassende Set konstant hochgehalten werden.
Und nach kollektiven „One more song!“-Rufen beschlossen DARKHAUS diesen Abend musikalisch mit The Last Goodbye und Don’t Close Your Eyes abzuschließen, bevor sie sich in gelassener Runde auf ein Bierchen zu ihren Fans begaben.
On October 21st 2016 it became very international in Hamburg as 9 musicians from 6 different nations, combined into 2 bands, arrived at the location called Logo Hamburg to present finest Goth’n’Roll: DARKHAUS with its support Hell Boulevard. Both bands brought a lot of new songs of their new albums with them, presenting them to numerous guests who showed up.
Punctual at 8:00 PM Mattro „vDiva“ Fabbiani, Von Marengo, Dee Dammers and A.Ve of Hell Boulevard entered the low stage of the club and opened their slot with a song called Love is Death, to which a music video was released only a week before the tour has started. This video is already the 4th one in the videography of this band which was founded only two years ago.
The show was immediately continued brute with a drifty, crystal-clear Goth’n’Roll, which gradually flowed into the veins of all participants. After Living Dead Lover all this lead to an exited applause for the Switzerland based musicians. Subsequently every single member was introduced by the singer. This short break was used by Von Marengo to care and attune his Cyan guitar. Apparently this was very intensive and during this little break frontman Matteo needed his whole verbal skills for entertaining the audience. This superior and humorous interlude shouldn’t be their last one on this already young evening. 😉 2 songs later they used the chance to thank DARKHAUS for this great tour.
With the eased cry „Thanks God!“ and a playful „I hate you, Dude!“ to the man on the guitar, Matteo Fabbiani was back in his element, as it was finally time to announce Lesson in Pain. The show was directly moved on with Freak Parade. The only sad thing was, that Matteo had to dispense with his album duett partner Chris Harms of Lord of the Lost. But thanks to his own smoky, deep voice, this wasn’t a problem for Matteo. All in all the band did a good job in entertaining, what was noticeable after the rich applause of every single person in the audience, after their final song Hangover from Hell.
This day was a home match for the headliner Darkhaus, because this is the hometown of guitar player Rupert Keplinger and drummer Paul Keller. But also bassist Gary Meskil, guitarist Marshall Stephens and singer Ken Hanlon seemed to feel very comfortable as it was already their third time playing this great venue. On this special friday night they were the main act.
Like Hell Boulevard did, DARKHAUS opened their set with a song to which a music video was released only a short time ago: All Of Nothing. As sound and lyrics were familiar to their fans, it didn’t really matter that there were a few problems with the sound mixing at the beginning. But from the second song onward, everything was sorted out. After The Heartache was euphorically welcomed by the audience. This one might be one of the favourite songs of DARKHAUS’s current album – at least when it comes to the download charts of different online platforms and the cheering crowd.
When frontman Ken Hanlon announced their next song Ghost, he mentioned a bit overwhelmed with emotions, that already 3 years has passed since it was released. Looking at the bands biography it’s really hard to believe that the band already played 5 successful tours and appeared on different festival in this time, too. Especially since some band members are still active in different other bands (Pro-Pain, Eisbrecher).
Thanks to the good work of their audio engineer and the way of DARKHAUS sound arrangement, it was easy for everyone to get into the songs and party along with the band, even for the ones who didn’t know them before. This way the band was able to create a constant frisky atmosphere during their whole set consisting of 15 songs.
After collective „One more song!“ – screams, DARKHAUS ended this evening with The Last Goodbye and Don’t Close Your Eyes. Afterwards they decided to drink some beers with all their satisfied fans.
